c.1948 Courtland, No. 4050 FBI Riot Squad Car in Original Box

Squat, compact, and mean probably sums up this unusual tin litho friction drive vehicle by Courtland. With a completely green body its totally enclosed except for the gun barrel sticking out the front windshield. It comes complete with the original box, plus its original Motor Guarantee certificate.

Looking like a art noir armored car the toy features the classic sloping rear roof shape that predominated during the mid to late 1940's. This particular body style was used by Courtland for several other toys including their Fire Chief Car and Bakery Car among others. It's loaded with litho details which really make the toy so attractive. The gun barrel bounces up and down as the car moves forward. It doesn't spark.

The body and black chassis are completely sealed. The friction motor is contained within a removable house. When it was brand new the motor was guaranteed to work. If it wasn't working you could remove it and send it back for repair free of charge, but you had to enclose 25¢ for shipping.

The tires are solid black rubber. Turning the front tires produces a loud grrrrrrr sound which works great. The Courtland logo was embossed into the chassis.

The green and white box features an illustration of the Riot Car on every panel. It also includes mention of its long running motor, spark, siren and guaranteed for life. It has a yellow price sticker on one end which is probably not original.
